Karaköy Cultural Centre
A public courtyard opening to the shore
A cultural building in the port district that gathers galleries, an auditorium and workshops around a public courtyard along the shore.
Place and climate
The design began with a year-long sun and wind study on site. The massing is oriented to shield the afternoon western sun while admitting low winter sun.
Materials
Local stone, light render and high-thermal-mass slabs store the night's coolness and release it during the day.
