Galata Loft
A contemporary interior in a historic building
A loft conversion in a 19th-century han that exposes the original masonry and draws light deep into the plan.
Place and climate
The design began with a year-long sun and wind study on site. The massing is oriented to shield the afternoon western sun while admitting low winter sun.
Materials
Local stone, light render and high-thermal-mass slabs store the night's coolness and release it during the day.
